Pittsburgh Organ Academy
Level IV: The Continuing Education Student
Level IV of the Academy is designed for the post high school student or adult who wishes to become an organist.
Audition requirements:
All applicants to Level IV must include a recommendation letter from the student's religious or educational institution. Applicants should submit a cassette or CD containing the following items:
If auditioning on piano:
- A two-part invention by J. S. Bach.
- A Clementi Sonatina or equivalent piece.
- A four part hymn.
If auditioning on organ:
- One of the "little" Preludes and Fugues by J. S. Bach or a short chorale prelude from the Orgelbuchlein.
- A piece in contrasting style.
- A four-part hymn with pedals.
The Award :
Students will receive 32 lessons from September to June. A maximum of three students may be admitted to level IV at the discretion of the committee and subject to available funding.
Terms of Award:
Applications must be submitted no later than due date. See upcoming dates for current information. Awards are effective for the academic year beginning with the Fall term. Applicants will be notified of final decisions of the Pittsburgh Organ Academy Committee by June 1st. The student agrees to provide all necessary materials (organ shoes, music, etc.) and to make arrangements for a practice organ. The student also agrees to provide transportation to the site of practice organ and lessons. The student commits to adequate preparation for lessons during the term of study. All lessons not completed by June 1 of the term granted will be forfeited.
