Pittsburgh Organ Academy
Level III: The College Student
Level III of the Academy offers assistance in two categories of undergraduate students, organ majors and non-organ majors.
Application Requirements:
Applicants should submit:
- A 6-10 minute cassette or CD indicative of their current playing skills (piano or organ).
- An essay detailing how they will benefit from this award.
- A letter of recommendation from their current or prospective studio organ teacher.
The Award:
A.) Organ Majors
For one undergraduate organ major enrolled in a Pittsburgh area college or a Pittsburgh resident enrolled in an institution outside of PIttsburgh, the Academy offers (subject to the discretion of the committee and the availability of funding):
- Season tickets for the Organ Artists Series of Pittsburgh.
- Participation in master classes presented by local professors of organ and/or distinguished visiting organists as available.
- Financial assistance to attend an AGO convention.
B.) Non-organ Majors:
For one undergraduate who is not an organ major (non-music major or a music major with another applied instrument) and who is accepted into studio organ lessons at their college or university, the Academy offers (subject to the discretion of the committee and the availability of funding):
- A scholarship in the amount of $250 toward tuition for applied organ lessons.
- Student membership in the PIttsburgh Chapter of the American Guild of Organists, including a subscription to The American Organist magazine.
- Season tickets for the Organ Artists Series of Pittsburgh.
Terms of Award:
All applications are due and must be submitted no later than the specified date, typically early April. (See upcoming dates for specific information for the current year.) Awards are effective for the academic year beginning with the Fall term. Applicants will be notified of final decisions of the Pittsburgh Organ Academy Committee by June 1st.
