Paul Jacobs, Organist The Organ Artists Series is very excited about 2 things: a $4000 grant from the Heinz Endowments underwriting part of the expenses for the Bach Weekend and the performance of Paul Jacobs.Paul Jacobs, who just recently at the tender age of 25 was appointed to the faculty of Julliard, performed an all-Bach recital on Bach’s 318th birthday. Several years ago Paul, a native of Washington, PA, performed Bach marathons in several cities in the United States including Pittsburgh. |

Brink Bush specializes in German romantic music, particularly the works of Wilhelm Middelschulte.Brink Bush is the organist for the first concert of the 23rd season. He has been Organist and Director of Music at Saint Anne Church in Rochester, NY since 1992. Mr. Bush studied at Peabody Institute, the Julliard School and the Eastman School of Music. His principal teachers were McNeil Robinson, Paul Martin-Maki, David Craighead and Russell Saunders. He has just completed a tour of Germany and Austria. In addition, he is an expert on the music of Wilhelm Middelschulte as well as German Romantic music. We had the pleasure of hearing him perform a concert of the music of Middelschulte and his contempraries - a rare treat to hear some "new" and different music for many of us. |

Organ Artists Series Calvary Episcopal Church Shadyside 7:30 PM Sunday, November 18, 2001 The Organ Artists Series proudly hosts Susan Ferré as the second recitalist of the series. An expert in Baroque as well as contemporary French music, we have often heard Dr. Ferré on local radio broadcasts of "Pipedreams" and "Performance Today". Dr. Ferré holds degrees from the University of North Texas, the Eastman School of Music, Texas Christian University, and the Schola Cantorum in Paris where she was a Fulbright Scholar. Her teachers include well-known organists Jean Langlais, Marcel Dupré and Maurice Duruflé. As Director of the Texas Baroque Ensemble, a group recognized for performances using original instruments, Dr. Ferré is much in demand for concerts and workshops across the country. Dr. Ferré is based in Texas where she lives with her husband, a family physician, and son, a music student at Southern Methodist University, both performers with the Texas Baroque Ensemble. A reception follows the recital. Dr. Ferre is an expert in Baroque music, currently serving as Director of the Texas Baroque Ensemble. The Ensemble performs on original insturments as well as 20th century French music, having studied with Jean Langlais. |

March 18, 2001 PETER SYKEShas recorded 10 compact discs. His recording of his transcription of Holst's "The Planets" was acclaimed as "Best Organ Recording of 1996." Mr. Sykes has performed at the Library of Congress and across the country on clavichord and fortepiano as well as organ and harpsichord. He will be assisted by his wife Victoria Wagner, a past Dean of the Boston Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. |
April 22, 2001 MARGARET McELWAIN KEMPER was National President of the American Guild of Organists from 1994-1998. She studied with Andre` Marchal in Paris on a Fulbright grant, and with Marie-Claire Alain and Anton Heiller. Presently she is associate professor at Northwestern University. |
