06-Apr-2008 - Organ Artists Series Concert featuring Patrick Kabanda, School Organist & Instructor of Music Phillips Academy, Andover MA. Presented in cooperation with the Calvary Episcopal Church supported by the Donald C McVay, Jr. fund.

Kabanda

Patrick arrived in Pittsburgh on Wednesday the 2-Apr-2008 to start to prepare for his concert. En route to Shadyside Episcopal Church he had a chance to check out the instrument at Heinz Memorial Chapel at the University of Pittsburgh where he was able to chat with a young organ student who was practicing there. After hearing Patrick play, she went back to practice with even more determination!

However there was a lot of work to do, so he didn't delay getting over to Calvary Episcopal.

Marcia Morris was on-hand to greet him and get him directed to the chancel.

Where he found a small portative organ. Not quite the instrument that he was expecting, with a meager selection of stops.

Alan Lewis made his way down from his office....

....and finally met Patrick to give him a proper introduction to the correct instrument....the big one!

Kabanda

There was a lot of explaining, and then some time for Patrick to try things out.

When Sunday came around a few folks were very anxious to get in and find a good seat! Quite a few early-arrivals were in the pews well before the 4PM start time.

Kabanda

It got pretty busy fairly quickly, as a bit over 200 people hurried to get into the concert.
