Recent Events - 27-Apr-2008 - Organ Artists Series Concert featuring Rachel Laurin, Canadian organist and composer, in concert at Shadyside Presbyterian Church in cooperation with Music in a Great Space.
The weather was beautiful when Rachel arrived...
And quickly took off her street shoes .....
To get to the console and practice .
Saturday meant lots of coffee in the morning and a lot of time at the console. |
|
On Sunday the staff from Music In a Great Space (MIGS) was on hand to make sure everything was ready.
Peter Bodnar got ready to sell tickets.
And back in the "green room" Rachel went over her notes.
There were a lot of registration changes to go over, a piston to hit there, a toe stud to toggle at another spot. |
While down below in the church hall the reception folks were setting up. |
Getting the glassware, plates and food all ready... |
The time arrived, Scott did some final checks.....
Folks opened their programs and the concert began!
There was a lot of interest in the concert, the beautiful weather and an organist/composer both helped draw folks in to the event..
Chapter Dean, Don Fellows (left), and Music Director of Shadyside, J. Christopher Pardidi, were both pleased with the attendance.
The last few stragglers came in from the nice weather....
|
||
Chris Pardidi did a final check with the performer and it was "on with the show"....! |
||
|
||
The audience was very pleased with the first half of the program.
|
||
While music was being made upstairs, preparations continued in the church hall for the reception.
At intermission, it was time to purchase some CDs as well as stretch the legs outside in the beautiful spring weather.
Time to end the intermission, in spite of the nice weather outside. |
With a blur of motion for the second half...
After all those notes, everyone needed a quick rest. Left to right, Chris Pardini, Rachel Laurin and John Morabito take a quick break after the concert. John, who is now studying at Eastman, was the young AGO member who was on the OAS committee and recommended that Rachel be asked to play in the series. Always the team player, he graciously volunteered to turn pages during the concert.
.
Finally, it was time to have fun at the reception!
|
||
Eventually there was some general cleanup and a few final discussions. |
||
With thanks from Chris Pardini to Rachel for the spectacular event and work with the Organ Artists Series and Music in a Great Space. |
There was more to be had the next day. After a good night rest, Rachel returned to participate in the AGO Chapter meeting where she presented to a very well attended workshop session.
All in all, a wonderful concert and very informative working session! We hope to see Rachel back again for another outstanding performance!
