1-May-2011 - Organ Artists Series Concert featuring John Schwandt, at East Liberty Presbyterian Church performing both classical repertoire as well as accompanying silent films.
John is in casual attire for practice but must put on the "organ shoes". These special shoes have a smooth sole and slightly elevated heel to make playing the pedals easier.
The East Liberty instrument has some "special" adjustments that allow the organist to group the expression pedals as well as set custom crescendo levels. These can be seen in the pull-out drawer below.
It took a lot of practice to get the registration just right and all the pistons set!
It's lonely work, but necessary to get things right!
....all alone in the great space....!
On the day of the concert, the console was out front and center as well as a large screen for the movies!
Organ Artists Series committee member started to gather and set-up, and soon there were some early patrons dotting the pews.. |

Some old friends had time to catch up before the concert began...
The lights dimmed and music began with the film...
After the first film, John also played some solo organ pieces.
A quick break for intermission....
After intermission, the concert resumed with a bit of organ solo and then another movie, "The Tramp".
